Entertainment Report Issue #16 (NFL Divisional Playoffs, NHL Preview, TNA Genesis and more)

After another busy week, we have another jam packed issue.Welcome to the Entertainment Report!

It has been a very busy week for me as a side from just the Report. I got two extra blog entries done that are up for reading. First after the TNA PPV structure change, I put together what I think would help the WWE PPV business in The PPV Structure Needs A Change. Then I put together part one of my NHL Preview with part two coming in this issue.

A quick announcement, this Saturday I will be going to the ROH live show at Turner Hall. At the moment I plan on live tweeting results from the event throughout the night. My full recap will be apart of next week issue, as well as some pictures.

This week I have pictures from Admirals game on Sunday afternoon that CJ and I went to. Also this week, two NHL theme sections have started up and look for more as the season goes on.

As per usual the mailbag was empty but on Twitter, our newtwitter account, @EReport1, got retweets from @Travlord and the @EastCoastCast. Also my World Juniors coverage led to a shout out from @RoyalFlyer05. Thank you very much as always. Please help spread the word some more.

Alright, it’s a busy week so let’s get into it…

Baltimore 38-Denver 35 (2OT)
San Francisco 45-Green Bay 31
Atlanta 30-Seattle 28
New England 41-Houston 28

Blake: 0-4 (2-6)
Joe: 1-3 (4-4)

Blake's Pick: San Francisco at Atlanta
Blake's Pick: Baltimore at New England

Ravens @ Patriots

Joe Flacco led his team to unbelievable deep passes down field to Torrey Smith, but he was himself % wise. If the Patriots Corners don't watch out, it could be a long night. The top 3 Deep Ball Passers in the NFL Flacco can easily kill the Patriots Defense, but with the Top QB in the playoffs remaining, Minus the Loss of Gronk and Woodhead (Shane Vereen the 2nd year back stepped up to fullfill the loss) LOOK for Ray Lewis and the Ravens to leave this all on the line! I give a punchers chance to the Ravens but Still pick the Patriots... 21-17

49ers @ Falcons

The Colin Kaepernick experience made us all feel dumb when we picked the Packers last week... He was DOMINANT! I expect the same thing this week, the Falcons surprised me, especially Matt Ryan who no matter how many times and no matter the score, when he was down orchestrated a THRILLING come back drive.... Matty Ice is hot and is going to ride the streak into San Fran.. this game honestly is a toss up and if I was a betting man would say PLEASE STAY AWAY lol..... but I will take the 49ers by a Field Goal...

Welcome to part two of my NHL preview. Today I will be posting my predictions of who I think will make the playoffs after the shortened season. So here go…

Thoughts

This was not the start to the new PPV format that I was expecting. Not much truly happened. No titles changed hands and Ace & Eights still look really weak. I’m happy to see Daniels win the #1 Contendership though; he deserves to get a real title shot. Also I’m happy to see them advance Kenny King’s character, I hope he’s the next X Division Champion.

Saturday night the Eastern Conference Champions will begin their season visiting the New York Islanders.Their home opener is against the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night. That game will be on the NBC Sports Network.
1/11/13-Milwaukee at Peoria

All streaks have to come to an end and that’s what happened here. The Rivermen came out and dominated the game from the start. Peoria had five different goal scored including a game winning penalty shot goal by Sergey Andronov. Austin Waston and ScottValentine scored for the Ads.

1/12/13-Rockford at Milwaukee

After a goal duel between the Admirals’ Magnus Hellberg (32 saves) and the Icehogs’ Carter Hutton (24 saves), Joonas Jarvien finally broke the scoreless tie to give Milwaukee a 1-0 lead with 5:48 left in the game. 2:20 later, Jeremy Morin tied up the game for Rockford. The game went to overtime but quickly ended when Brandon Saad scored for the Hogs less than a minute into the extra session.

1/13/13-Peoria at Milwaukee

In a very oddly paced game, theAds dropped third game in a row, fourth in five, and second straight game to Peoira, 3-2 in a shootout. SergeyAndronov won the game for the Rivermen. Ben Ryan opened the scoring in the first for the Ads on a goal that had to be reviewed and after Peoria took a 2-1 lead in the third, Taylor Beck tied it up for Milwaukee.

This week the Ads head to Abbotsford to play back to back game on Saturday and Sunday night against the Heat before returning home Wednesday night to play the Houston Aeros.

Dating back to the beginning of professional sports, there has always been a rivalry between teams. Whether it’s the Dodgers and Giants, the Yankees and Red Sox, or the Cowboys and Redskins, everyone is going to have these games circled on their calendars the instant the schedule is released. In late fall when the Major Indoor Soccer League schedule is released, you can guarantee, that the first thing most fans look for is when Baltimore faces Milwaukee. So needless to say, this past Saturday was circled on everyone’s calendar. Having lost 3 straight games in the Midwest already this season, two games to the Soul, with the most recent loss coming the previous night, and one loss in Milwaukee earlier in the year, the Blast were coming in to the U.S. Cellular Arena hoping to correct the ship as a loss would push them back into second place behind the Wave. Whenever these two teams play, there is a championship-esque feeling in the atmosphere. It’s only fitting considering these two teams have met in the last two championships with Milwaukee coming out on top both seasons. Baltimore started the scoring midway through the first quarter with an unassisted goal from Tony Donatelli to take a 2-0 lead. Less than two minutes later, a goal from Machel Millwood forced a 4-0 lead over the Wave. Goals by Milwaukee’s Fabinho and Ian Bennett tied the game at 4-4 going in to the break. Ian Bennett then broke the deadlock in the third quarter when he finished off his second goal of the afternoon. This was short lived as Baltimore’s Lucas Roque was able to finish off his only goal of the evening. Target forward Tenzin Rampa who has been on a scoring streak as of late, finished off his 4th goal in 6 games to take the lead for what the Wave thought would be the game winner. With just over 2 minutes remaining in the game Baltimore’s Tony Donatelli found the net once again to tie the game at 8. Shortly after the goal was scored, the cards began to fly, with a few thrown elbows and extracurricular activity. A yellow card issued to Mike Lookingland proved to be disastrous to the Blast just minutes before the end of regulation. Losing their captain and most talented defender was not something that Baltimore needed in the most intense quarter of the game. Another yellow card and blue card issued to Adriano Dos Santos, gave the Wave a penalty late which would carry over to the overtime session if the team were not to score. Due to the yellow card, Lucio Gonzaga was forced to serve the 2-minute minor. With just 38 seconds into overtime, defender Josh Rife, found the ball on the back post and walked in the game winning goal with just 2 seconds remaining in the power-play to lead the Wave to a 10-8 victory, and sole position of first place in the MISL.

Next game is Friday in Chicago at 7:30 before returning home to face the very same Chicago Soul at the US. Cellular Arena on Saturday

Congrats to the newest Diva champion, Kaitlyn. I might have been surprised if the wrestling nerds on the Interwebs (and in my house) would have shut their yaps about Eve leaving the WWE. With the Internet in play, surprises in wrestling come about as often as a pair of non-silicone boobs - and I'm not talking about Sandow and Rhodes. You're welcome.

You hear that marks? Stop ruining everything! There are few things in life that we have no control over knowing: the flavors in a variety box of chocolates, how Miley is a skank over T-Swift, why Dolph Ziggler is not constantly in a hairdresser's chair maintaining his extraordinarily manly platinum locks...let us have something! Anyway...

I have to admit that I have a wee bit of a girl crush on Kaitlyn. Any girl that can do the robot as well as I can deserves a spot on my "If I Were Into Girls" list. You can't deny that she's come a long way from her days of insulting Vickie on a weekly basis via drawings and costumes. And any person that can rebound from a "---busters" gimmick (Trent Barreta and Caylen Croft who? And yes, I had to Google that.) should be rewarded with a push. So again, a hearty congratulations to our favorite Pepe Le Pew lookalike for winning the most prestigious award for a female sports entertainer...a pink and purple sparkly butterfly. Way to stick with stereotypes, Vince.

To go with the biker/punk/goth/lover of black thing she's got going on, I'd pair Kaitlyn with this black holographic pendant. It's a little badass and a little girly, just like her.

Random Thought: Whatever happened to Celebrity Deathmatch? I read in an interview that Kaitlyn hates The Big Bang Theory, one of my personal faves. Just picture a Kaitlyn/Kaley Cuoco cat fight - you're welcome for the visual, boys. But really, I think Penny could take her or at least knock her out with a Vickie-esque version of Soft Kitty. OR we could pair them up and have a tag team match between AJ and someone almost as crazy as her...Amy Farrah Fowler. Are you reading this MTV? I'm giving you GOLD! Which is what the Divas belt should be. *sigh*

Until next week, stay Puzzled and Polished!

  • Mick Foley was announced as the first inductee of the WWE Hall of Fame this year. It’s fitting especially since the ceremony is at Madison Square Garden.
  • Tyson Kidd will be out at least six month after suffering ligament damage in his right knee. This is a shame. So much for pushing Kidd/Gabriel in 2013.
  • The past Friday, Zach Ryder posted the final edition of Z True Long Island Story. It was a really good final show and fitting farewell to an awesome concept that saved Ryder’s career.
  • WWE released Trent Barreta and then quickly added to a Pro Wrestling Syndicate show over Wrestlemania weekend.
  • This past Monday was Eve Torres’ final night is the WWE. She didn’t resign her contract so on her final night she ended up dropping the Divas Championship to Kaitlyn and then “quit” the WWE on screen.
  • It has been announced that the hosts of the ACMs on April 1st will be Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan. Mandy is totally excited about this.
  • Brian Burke was relieved of his duties of president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. It was definitely a surprise to all those who follow hockey. His replacement was announced to be David Nonis.
  • Jurassic Park 4 was announced to be released on 6/13/14. Why? Was there really an outcry for another Jurassic Park movie?
  • The Academy Award nominations were announced last week. Lincoln led the way with twelve nomination and Life of Pi with 11. Surprisingly Ben Affleck didn’t get nominated for Argo.
  • Major League Baseball announced last week that no players will be inducted into the hall of fame this year.
  • The Golden Globes was unpredictable again this year. Argo, Les Miserables, Lincoln, Diango Unchained and Girls were the big winner of the event.
  • Fox and Ryan Murphy announced that Glee has been renewed for season five in 2013-14. That’s just very exciting news!
  • Lance Armstrong opened up to Oprah Winfrey on doping up on performance-enhancing drugs. It’s about time he finally came clean, this should finally be the end of this story.
  • Carolina traded G Brian Boucher and D Mark Alt to Philadelphia for Clake Pither. (1/13/13)
  • Los Angeles traded F Kevin Westgarth to Carolina for F Anthony Stewart and a 2013 4th Round Pick. (1/13/13)
  • New York Rangers re-signed D Michael Del Zatto to a two year deal at $2.54 million a year. (1/13/13)
  • Montreal Canadiens has told C Scott Gomez to not report to camp and they will pay out his contract this year. (1/13/13)
