"I'm gonna pop some tags, only got twenty dollars in my pocket. I'm, I'm, I'm hunting, looking for a come up, this is fucking awesome."-Macklemore
Welcome to a very snowy edition of the Entertainment Report.
What a difference a week makes. It has been a very busy week. Between major announcements, the Oscars and Razzies, a PPV and very busy weeks for the sports teams we cover.
Before we continue, I want to send a major shout-out to our sponsor @PuzzledPolished for having a very successful first craft fair last weekend. Mandy (@Mama_Mandabear) and her mom made close to $100 for @AutismSpeaks.
Also Mandy's app entry was selected for creation. There will be much more to this story soon on the P&P Twitter and Facebook. With all this getting together, there will be no Ring Around The Polish this week.
This past week I hope you enjoyed @ScottFellows23's live tweets from the Wave games. He is hoping to do more before the season ends. Shoot him some love and thank him.
Finally as always a continued thank you to our friends at the @EastCoastCast especially @Travlord for all the major support. If you aren't listening and are a wrestling fan, jump over to blogtalkradio.com or ITunes. Last night's show is currently up to listen to.
Alright let's get into this week, there's alot to cover...
ROH World Heavyweight Championship
Kevin Steen (c) vs. Jay Lethal
This matchup has been setup since Killer Instinct back in October. If this whole storyline is going to be worth it, there was has to be a title change. Plus the Survival of the Fittest winner should maybe actually win on his first shot...
Winner and New ROH World Heavyweight Champion: Jay Lethal
ROH World Television Championship
Adam Cole (c) vs. Matt Tavern
Winner and still ROH World Television Champion: Adam Cole
ROH World Tag Team Championship
The Briscoes (c) vs. Bobby Fish & Kyle O'Reilly
This match can go either way. I can see this ending in a DQ but I can also see Fish/O'Reilly winning as transitional champions to the American Wolves in April...
Winners & New World Tag Team Championship: Bobby Fish & Kyle O'Reilly
Best 2 out of 3 Falls
Michael Elgin vs. Roderick Strong
This is a huge rematch from Final Battle. I hope this ends this rivalry for now. It just feels like it's gone on too long. That being said this pick is also easy...
Winner: Michael Elgin (2-1)
No Holds Barred
Charlie Hass vs. BJ Whitmer
This looks in paper extremely random. I actually prefer Hass vs. Cheeseburger to this matchup but that's not the point. Without their partners this won't be as much fun.
Winner: Charlie Hass
American Wolves (Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards) vs. Forever Hooligans (Rocky Romero & Alex Kozlov)
This is being billed as a "dream match". Is it really a dream match if most fans don't know one of the teams? Very simple for me.
Winners:American Wolves
S.C.U.M. (Jimmy Jacobs & Steve Corino) vs. Caprice Coleman & Cedric Alexander
I expect Rhino to interfere in this match. I'll actually more shocked if he doesn't.
Winners: S.C.U.M.
QT Marshall vs. ACH vs. Silas Young vs. Mike Sydal vs. Adam Page vs. Tadarius Thomas
So the rest of the men from the Top Prospect tournament are in a crazy six man match. I'm torn between two guys so I'll flip a coin and go with...
Winner: ACH
Episode: Super Hoagie
After watching the episode I want to walk down to Readie's and pick up a Secret Stash Superhero. It just looks like a really good sandwich. The only part of the contest I would have loved to see was the aftermath of the contest especially since Walt is a really sore loser.
As for the rest of the show there were some really cool items. The big item was an Amazing Fantasy #15 which feature the first appearance of Spiderman. It's just a shame that it was so taped up or it would have been worth the money. The item I liked was the Chewbacca Model Kit, not that I would have anywhere to put it. In the scary item department was the homemade Wolverine metal claws. Someone spent way too much time to make that. Finally in the who cares department was The Flash of Two Worlds statue.
Overall a really fun show, and it makes me wish the show was still a full hour.
On Tuesday ABC announced the cast for the new season so let's take a look...
- Victor Ortiz & Lindsay Arnold
- Kellie Pickler & Derek Hough
- Wynonna Judd & Tony Dovolani
- Ingo Rademacher & Kym Johnson
- Zendaya Coleman & Valentin Chmerkovsky
- Andy Dick & Sharna Burgess
- Lisa Vanderpump & Gleb Savchenko
- Aly Raisman & Mark Ballas
- Dorothy Hamill & Tristan MacManus
- D.L. Hughley & Cheryl Burke
- Jacoby Jones & Karina Smirnoff
The show starts on March 18th and we will be covering the show.
Embarking on their longest road trip of the season, the Milwaukee Wave's goal was to win three of the five games, with the most important win against their arch-rivals the Baltimore Blast. Going two and three on this road trip, did not help in their pursuit for the MISL regular season crown. A game that could have gone either way ended up going to the Baltimore Blast last Saturday. Baltimore Jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before the Wave were able to tie the game at 6-6 midway through the third. Lucas Roque was able to finish off his second goal of the game, and Lucio Gonzaga added one of his own in the fourth quarter to give the Blast a 10-6 lead, where they would never look back. A 10-6 victory for Baltimore meant one more Wave loss, would secure first place in the playoffs, and the regular season crown awarded to Baltimore.
A quick turnaround for the Wave as they would face the Rochester Lancers the next day, where US Women's National Team Star and FIFA Player of the Year, Abby Wambach was the special guest in front of a near sold out crowd. A back and forth affair, started off with an early goal for Milwaukee, shortly followed by a Lancers goal. Mauricio Salles broke the deadlock by scoring a three point goal off the restart opportunity. Milwaukee jumped out to an 8-5 lead, before Rochester scored two more goals with one goal being scored late in the fourth by Doug Miller. One last effort from Milwaukee was not enough as they fell to Rochester securing a second place finish in the race for their third consecutive MISL Championship. Ironically they finished in second place for the past three seasons, and went on to win the past two MISL Championships.
A Wednesday night match up in Syracuse, saw JP Rodrigues register his first multi-point game this season. Two goals sparked the comeback that the Wave needed to bounce back from their 2 game slump. The Silverknights were able to finish off a few goals of their own. A 12-8 final score for the Wave sparked a fire, that they needed to begin the playoffs.
The team returns Saturday night March 2nd, to face these very same Syracuse Silverknights at 6:00pm at the US Cellular Arena. Wichita then visits the cell on Sunday March 3rd, for the regular season finale. Kickoff at 3:00pm.
2/21/13-New Jersey at Washington
If you like special teams, this was the game for you. The Capitals went into the third period with a 2-1 lead. Mathieu Perreault & Mike Ribeiro scored power play goals for the Capitals and Patrik Elias knocked in a shortie. At the 9:19 mark of the third Andrei Loktionov tied the game and then Ilya Kovalchuk broke the tie with a power play goal. Martin Brodeur made 17 saves for the victory.
2/23/13-New Jersey at Washington
This game turned into the Alex Ovechkin show. Led by his hat trick and an assist the Capitals beat the Devils 5-1. Ilya Kovalchuk scored the lone goal for New Jersey.
2/24/13-Winnipeg at New Jersey
The Devils cannot seem to play a full 60 minute game. They took a 2-1 lead into the 2nd period on goals by Travis Zajac and Steve Bernier, then they just couldn't do anything else. Grant Clitsome tied the game and then Evander Kane broke the tie to lead the Jets to a 4-2 victory.
After a much needed three days off the Devils head out to Winnipeg tonight. Then they continue their road trip against the Sabres in Buffalo on Saturday afternoon and then head to Toronto to face off against the Leafs on Monday night. Finally they return home to face the Tampa Bay Lightning the next night.
2/21/13-Milwaukee at Lake Erie
Total domination. Those are the only words that can describe the Monsters victory over the Admirals. Led by two goals and two assists by David van der Gulik and a goal and three assists by Bill Thomas, Lake Erie embarrassed Milwaukee 7-1. Juuso Puustinen got the lone Ads goal.
2/23/13-Milwaukee at Toronto
What a difference a day and a change of goalie makes. Brad Winchester scored 1:46 in and the Ads never looked back. Daniel Bang scored the eventual game winner and Taylor Beck knocked in an empty leading to a 3-1 Milwaukee victory. Magnus Hellberg made 19 saves in the win.
2/24/13-Milwaukee at Hamilton
This night belonged to Admirals goalie Magnus Hellberg. He made 25 saves for his second shutout of the season as the Ads beat the Bulldogs 2-0. Juuso Puustinen scored the only goal that was really needed and Chris Mueller knocked one in the empty net to close the game out.
2/26/13-Milwaukee at Lake Erie
Looking for revenge the Ads went into Lake Erie but came up short 3-1 to the Monsters. David van der Gulik scored a pair of goals and Bill Thomas added one in the victory. Chris Mueller knocked in the lone Ads goal to tie the game early.
The Ads head into March with a three pack of games. The Grand Rapids Griffins come to town for Friday night and Sunday afternoon game. In between the Admirals travel to Rockford to play the Icehogs on Saturday night.
- Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter broke character in YouTube when calling out Glenn Beck. They were cutting an intense promo and then when it was over the set was shown as a green screen and Wayne Keown and Jake Hager spoke honestly about being characters on a television show and how international WWE is. It was well put. Glenn Beck replied with "I am currently booked doing anything else."
- The Undertaker shocked the fans at a house show in Waco, Texas on Saturday night by appearing tagging with Sheamus unadvertised. Amazing moment.
- WWE formally announced that Donald Trump will be inducted into the celebrity wing of the WWE Hall of Fame. I'm not sure who is really honestly shocked by this.
- Mick Foley was named the general manager of Saturday Morning Slam. Can't make that up.
- The New York Islanders placed Rick DiPietro on waivers. (2/22/13) He cleared waivers and was assigned to Bridgeport. (2/23/13)
- The Detroit Red Wings placed Jon Mursak on waivers. (2/22/13) He cleared waivers and was assigned to Grand Rapids. (2/23/13)
- The Washington Capitals resigned John Erskine and Braden Holtby to two year contracts. (2/25/13)
- The Phoenix Coyotes signed David Schlemko to a two year contract. (2/25/13)
- The Detroit Red Wings resigned Brian Lashoff to a three year contract. (2/25/13)
- The Dallas Stars traded Erik Cole to the Montreal Canadiens for Michael Ryder and a 2013 third round draft pick. (2/26/13)
- The Los Angeles Kings traded Simon Gagne to the Philadelphia Flyers for a conditional draft pick. (2/26/13)
That's it for this week. Next week there will be a recap of ROH 11th Anniversary, the return of Celebrity Apprentice and much much more.
