Entertainment Report Issue #7 (CMA Awards, DWTS, Comic Book Men, Admirals Hockey and more)

"Oh when the sun beats down and burns the tar up on the roof and your shoes get so hot you wish your tired feet were fireproof. Under the boardwalk, down by the sea, on a blanket with my baby is where I'll be."-The Drifters

Honestly I couldn't think of a better way to start up this week's issue, welcome to the Entertainment Report.

A couple of things before we get started.

First of all, the feedback bag is again empty, but a huge thank you again to @Travlord for the retweet of Issue #6. If you want to comment on this or any back issue, shoot an email to entertainreport@gmail.com or tweet me @Reilly21106.

#2, after the NHL cancelled the Winter Classic, I went on a Twitter rant that got a couple of retweets. At this point, unless there is an announcement that the lockout us over, I am not covering it anymore.

#3, my sister and niece have put together a charity drop point for Hurricane Sandy relief. If you are interested in helping out, all the info is in the flyer to the right, even if you are outside of New York/New Jersey area.

#4, I was planning on writing a review of the telethon Coming Together. Honestly I would get way too emotional if I tried. So if you want my thoughts on the show and tragedy in general, goto my personal blog, Jersey Strong (even from afar).

Finally, this is not a political blog but I will quickly comment on the election. I am happy about Obama winning. That's all I'm going to say in here.

Now that that's all out of the way, let's get into this issue...

The reason I love country award shows is the music and the show itself. Normally the awards just kinda happen. This year most of the winners surprised me and it made for great moments. Let's see how my picks went...

Entertainment of the Year: Blake Shelton (my pick)
Female Vocalist of the Year: Miranda Lambert (my pick)
Male Vocalist of the Year: Blake Shelton (my pick: Jason Aldean)
Vocal Group of the Year: Little Big Town (my pick: Lady Antebellum)
Vocal Duo of the Year: Thompson Square (my pick)
New Artist of the Year: Hunter Hayes (my pick: Lee Brice)
Album of the Year: Eric Church-Chief (my pick: Lady Antebellum-Own The Night)
Song of the Year: Miranda Lambert-Over You (written by Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert) (my pick)
Single of the Year: Little Big Town-Pontoon (my pick: Eric Church-Springsteen)
Music Video of the Year: Toby Keith-Red Solo Cup (my pick)
Musical Event of the Year: Tim McGraw & Kenny Chesney-Feel Like A Rockstar

It turned into the Blake & Miranda show with special guests Eric Church and Little Big Town hosted by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood.

To be honest I was very surprised by the Little Big Town awards, and Eric Church won me over when he broke into Born To Run in the middle of Springsteen.

Also, no offense to other hosts, but can Brad and Carrie host every country awards show from here on out? From doing Gangnam Style is the opening monologue to doing a tribute to Andy Griffin to just being on point with one liners all night, they kept the show flowing at the right pace.

It was a great night overall.

With this being election week there was no results show this week. (Side note: I'm now convinced that if there wasn't an election, they might have skipped the elimination last week because of Sandy related effects. You can't just go two weeks without an elimination when there is a schedule to keep.)

The show itself kinda confused me to be honest. I really have no idea what dance fusions were so it makes it hard for me to rate the dances. So since there won't be an elimination, I'll project where I think everyone will land after this week, including the Swing Marathon, which I always enjoy.

#7 Kristie & Maks
#6 Emmitt & Cheryl
#5 Kelly & Val
#4 Gilles & Peta
#3 Melissa & Tony
#2 Apolo & Karina
#1 Shawn & Derek

Episode: Ming in Charge

After everything that gone on with Sandy this episode was interesting. Walt and Mike called in to see if Ming could run the store in case of emergency. (Ming is currently running the Stash while Mike and Walt deal with massive damage to their homes.) The fun part was the fact that he convinced Brian O'Halloran (Dante in Clerks and Clerks 2) to help him, since Bryan really does nothing. It actually made for some great behind the counter moments.

Ming did make some interesting purchases, the first issues of Iron Man and Daredevil and some classic Transformers action figures. When Walt did return, after Ming yelled at him, he made a deal to have a special one of a kind Presidential Monster exclusive to the Stash.

It was definitely a really good show and alot of fun to watch, especially with what is going on right now.

11/2/12-Lake Erie at Milwaukee

Apparently the Ads can't win two games in a row. Despite getting 43 shots on goal, and Michael Latta being an assist away from a Gordie Howe hat trick, they lost 2-1 to the Monsters. Luke Walker got the game winner shorthanded in the middle of the second period, and Calvin Pickard stood on his head and made 42 saves.

11/3/12-Milwaukee at Peoria

After several games of bad defensive efforts, the Ads played their best game of the season, a 3-0 win. Jeremy Smith snapped his personal five game losing streak with a 34 shutout. Mike Moore, Mark Van Guild and Chris Mueller scored the goals.

11/7/12-Milwaukee at Grand Rapids

After a back and forth morning affair in Grand Rapids, the Ads fell to the Griffins 4-2. Joakim Anderson scored the game winner on the power play halfway through the third. The Admirals can't seem to win two in a row this season.

This is a short week for the Admirals. Friday night they are home playing Chicago and I will be attending, so look for pictures in next week's report. Saturday night they head to Rockford to start a seven game road swing.

WWE Network to be pay station

During their conference call last week, WWE announced that, at some further date, WWE Network will be a 24 hour pay channel. I guess that's intriguing expect what's on the Network? Are they moving some PPVs over? Is NXT going there? These are questions they have yet to answer.

Nigel McGuinness named ROH new on air authority figure.

I like this idea. Hopefully he'll make ROH stand our like Cornette never could.

ROH sets the Final Battle main event.

Well since this really isn't a spoiler, Kevin Steen will be defending the title against El Genarico in a Ladder War. That sounds like it's going to be a legit war.

Quick Hits

  • Rumor has it the Disney channel might do a sequel series to Boy Meets World, Girl Meets World, starring Ben Savage, where the star is Cory and Topanga's daughter. Why? I don't get it. BMW was a great show, it was a rare concept at the height of TGIF and came at the right time for our generation. Honestly I don't think lightning will strike twice. It feels like Disney is grasping at shows to replace Hannah Montana and Wizards.
  •  Harrison Ford actually likes the idea of coming back for Star Wars Episode 7. Pardon me while I geek out a little.
  • Continuing the trend of putting fresh shows in the post Super Bowl spot, CBS put Elementary after the game. I don't watch the show but good for the show.

Thank you for reading this week's issue, albeit a bit shorter than usual. If you like what you see, please retweet this report and share with your friends. The more it grows, the better it will get.

Like always check out my NFL Picks for Week 10. Had an alright week last week, hoping to improve this time around.

Next week's issue will be packed. Glee returns with a Grease themed episode that I'm looking forward to, DWTS has another double elimination and there will be predictions and thoughts on TNA's Turning Point. All that and much more.

So till then, keep everyone affected by Sandy in your hearts and prayers and see you next week.
