Entertainment Report Issue #19 (Super Bowl XLVII, Grammy Awards, Glee and much more)

This is officially the start of award season for the Report. Today Joe and I teamed up with Joe and we put our music prowess, or lack there of in some cases, to the test. We covered every awards in the pop, rock, rap and country genres plus some other fun categories, so take a look and see what we think.

That being said, a quick announcement. As award and WrestleMania season continues, I do have some surprises lines up so I hope you come back and enjoy the ride.

What an amazing game! Thanks in part to a timely light display... No not from Beyonce, but from a freak power outage just when it looked like the Ravens were about to put the game away. Colin Kaepernick appeared scared and just like a rookie during the first half throwing one of his passes away and not looking very accurate at all, meanwhile the exact opposite could be said about Mr Flacco... Who seemed calm, cool, & collective throughout the entire game. The Ravens were just the better team Sunday and the 49ers never seemed quite up to the task of completely overturning the score. The Ravens defense made it official with a crazy goal line stand that people will be talking about until next year's game.

Yay! Glee fooled me! When I saw the title I assumed it was another sex episode. It wasn't! This was indeed a very basic but good show. No major story twists, a few surprises but nothing too over the top.

First off we learned that the Warblers were officially disqualified from Regionals and that meant New Directions was in. That led to Finn saying that, of course, they needed to earn money to get to Indianapolis. Tina suggested a Men of McKinley calendar, which Finn approved. (I'm just going to skip over the Finn-Sue storyline. As awesome as Finn was here, Sue in penthouse scares me.) Meanwhile Sam and Brittany got their SAT scores which was revealed that Britt had one of highest and Sam had one of the lowest. This caused Sam to have a mental breakdown, which Blaine helped bring him back to earth with a great video from his friend. Hey at least we got a really fun mash up if Centerfold/Hot in Herre. Glee, you are sitting on a gold mine if you don't release the calendar, the fan girls will flock.

Back in New York, Rachel got offered a role in a student film, but the catch was that she'd have to be topless. The internal debate with her old self led to a Glee first, Rachel had a duet with herself. That's right, old Rachel and new Rachel sang Torn. I can honestly say, I love Rachel but two of her is too much. The best part of this whole story was Kurt calling Santana and Quinn to be Rachel's Jiminy Cricket and convinced her not to the future. On the record there is no real Brittana sex tape, I looked. It was great to just sit back and enjoy Love Story, even with the topless fat guys. Hey it made me feel good about myself.

Finally in the background in Ohio, we had a majorly cute buildup to Marley and Jake, complete with a love duet (A Thousand Years) and an amazing dedication (Let Me Love You). Good to see they are adorable together.

Overall it was a very good show. This is just continuing to be a great season. Keep it up Glee!

• Bruno Sammartino was announced as the newest member of the 2013 WWE Hall of Fame. Just writing that sentence causes chills up and down my spine. Triple H to his credit never gave up and struck a deal with one of the greatest wrestlers in the history of the WWE. With this announcement, in addition to Foley, Backlund and Stratus might be the most stacked Hall of Fame class ever.

Despite Missouri jumping out to a 5-0 lead, for the first three quarters last Saturday, the fans at the U.S. Cellular arena were treated to a back and forth affair. It seemed that everytime Milwaukee would score, Missouri would have an answer. Finally with just minutes remaining in the first half, the Wave finished off a powerplay goal after Comets midfielder Lucas Rodriguez was sent to the box for tripping. Giuliano Oliviero crashed the box and tapped in the go ahead goal to give the Wave a 12-11 halftime lead. Missouri yet again had an answer for Milwaukee as just thirty five seconds into the third quarter, Missouri took a 13-12 lead. A 12 point rally in the fourth with 2 3-point goals gave the Wave their highest scoring game of the season with a 29-15 win over the Missouri Comets. The 15th straight win for the Wave, guarenteed nothing less than a second place finish and home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Rookie midfielder Israel Sesay finished off his firsr two goal game. JP Rodrigues also finished off his first goal since his return to the Wave this season. A three point goal against Missouri's goalkeeper Danny Waltman who at the time was playing as a 6th attacker.

Next up for the Wave is sunday vs the Rochester Lancers at 3pm. It is the annual Autism awareness game. Specialty jerseys will be auctioned off following the game.

1/31/13-New York Islanders at New Jersey

Martin Brodeur is definitely one of the greatest puck handling goalies of all time but this time it bit him. Brad Bayes took advantage of Brodeur not making it back into his net in time and scored a power play goal for a wild 5-4 overtime victory. The Devils never had a lead but came back from three different Isles leads. Steve Bernier, Ryan Carter and Henrik Tallinder all scored in the 2nd period for the Devils. In the 3rd, tied at three, Mark Streit scored for New York but just over two minutes later, the returning Adam Henrique tied the game sending the game to overtime.

2/2/13-New Jersey at Pittsburgh

The Devils' six game point streak ended after getting blown out by the Penguins 5-1. Led by Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz's goal and two assists each, Pittsburgh completely dominated the afternoon cap. The lone New Jersey goal was a second period shorthanded goal by Andy Greene. This game also ended David Clarkson's six game point a game streak.

2/3/13-New Jersey at New York Islanders

After two sloppy penalty filled periods, the Devils and Islanders are scoreless and in a goalie duel between Johan Hedberg and Evgeni Nabokov. This ended at 16:06 when Steve Bernier gave the Devils 1-0. 1:10 later Bernier scored again and then David Clarkson closed the game out with an empty netter. Hedberg made 22 saves for the 3-0 shutout.

2/5/13-New York Rangers at New Jersey

Les by two goals and an assist by David Clarkson, the Devils beat their cross river rival Rangers 3-1. The ageless wonder Martin Brodeur made 24 saves in the dominating win. Adam Henrique continued his Ranger killing ways with a goal and Patrik Elias assisted on all three goals.

Is there even a point anymore to say the Devils have a busy week coming up? Tomorrow night the red hot Tampa Bay Lightning visit The Rock. Then they have a home and home with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday afternoon (on NHL Network) and Sunday night (on NBC Sports Network). Finally the Carolina Hurricanes come to town on Tuesday night.

2/1/13-Chicago at Milwaukee

What a terrible way to start a home stand. The Wolves scored four goals in 8:20 in the first period, leading to a 5-2 dominating victory over their Amtrak rival. Guillaume Desbiens and Michael Davies led the way with a goal and assist each. Mark Van Guilder and Cam Reid got the goals for the Milwaukee.

In the next week, the Ads don't go on road. Friday night the Houston Aeros come to town. Then on Sunday afternoon the Grand Rapids Griffins make their way to the BC followed by the Abbotsford Heat on Tuesday night.

• Super Bowl XLVII ended up being the third most watched program in history, gaining 108.4 million viewers. One would assume the 34 minute blackout had something to so with the dip in the ratings from the last two years.

• The Toronto Maple Leafs claimed Frazer McLaren off waivers from San Jose. (1/31/13)
• The Chicago Blackhawks traded Peter LeBlanc to the Washington Capitals for future considerations. (1/31/13)
• The New York Rangers traded Mike Rupp to the Minnesota Wild for Darroll Powe and Nick Palmieri. (2/4/13)
• The New York Islanders agreed to terms with Brett Gallant to a one year contract. (2/5/13)

Entertainment Report Issue #18 (WWE Royal Rumble, Super Bowl XLVII, Glee and much more!)

In screwy weather and constant sickness, it's time to sit back, take a breath and enjoy this week's Entertainment Report.

There are weeks that I use the term "jam-packed issue" as something to gain attention for that issue. This week though, this issue is very jam packed.

We have Super Bowl Picks, a review of the Royal Rumble, a review of the newest Glee episode and detailed recaps of very busy weeks for the Devils, Admirals & Wave. All that and alot of wrestling and entertainment news.

Through all this though, I find time to post the first round of Wrestlemania Projections up on Monday morning. So if you could jump over and give that a quick read.

Oh last week was the debut of our new web address, ereport1.blogspot.com. I forgot to mention it before I posted so if you had problems getting to the back issues I'm sorry. This will be fixed over the next couple of days.

Blake's Pick: San Francisco 28-Baltimore 10

Honestly I'm not watching the game on Sunday. The matchup does absolutely nothing for me. I don't care about either team and I definitely don't care of the Ray Lewis story. My pick us mainly because I'm a NFC guy and they might as week keep the trophy in the conference till the Giants or the Packers wake up next season.

Taking the 49ers this week, I think the Ray Lewis magic has run its course and this is just the start of what I think is the next Elite QB for years to come... Colin Kaepernick... 49ers 31 Ravens 17

Results

• Pre-Show: Antonio Cesaro pinned The Miz to retain the United States Championship
• Alberto Del Rio defeated The Big Show in a Last Man Standing match to retain the World Heavyweight Championship
• Team Hell No (Daniel Bryan & Kane) defeated Team Rhodes Scholars (Cody Rhodes & Damian Sandow) to retain the WWE World Tag Team Championship when Bryan submitted Rhodes
• John Cena won the Royal Rumble match
• The Rock pinned CM Punk to the WWE Championship

Thoughts

Let's take this match by match.

First of all from what I saw of the pre show match, it was alright. Not surprising to see Cesaro retain.

I loved the package that opened the show. I'm a sucker for the countdown clock and I fact that it set a theme for the show, "Time."

Before I get to the opening match, why did Bret Hart make a cameo? I mean Ricardo was hysterical as the uber fan and wearing the glasses made me laugh, but it was so random.

On to the World Heavyweight Championship match. This was a really fun match. I loved the choke slam off the top of the set. I picked ADR and it makes sense for him to retain by duck tape? I hope I wasn't the only one who had Batista pop into his head, "Duck tape!?!? Really duck tape?!?!"

There's not much to say about the Tag Team Championship match. I'm surprised Team Hell No retained. Then again I just couldn't see a way for them to lose even though I picked it.

Before I continue, no Diva's title match? Really? I wanted to see Kaitlyn!

Now the Royal Rumble match. This really felt so early. I'll do this as bullet points.

• Y2J shocked me. There hasn't been a Rumble entry that stunned me like that in a long time.
• I could go a while without hearing 3MB's music again.
• Seeing Goldust and Cody go at it made me smile. I hope we finally get to see that match.
• Bo Dallas did good in the match. I'm happy they are sitting up him vs. Barrett.
• The Godfather? Where did that come from?
• Bryan and Kane made me laugh again. When Kane caught Bryan I almost lost it. Thought it was close to how Kane held AJ when she made out with him.
• Ziggler did great is this match. I was almost convinced he was going to last till the very end.
• I was totally all in when it came down to Sheamus, Ryback and Cena.
• Cena winning doesn't surprise me at all. It was predictable but there is nothing wrong with that.

That being said, the main event. Rock/Punk. I'll keep it short. It was a good match. I totally went crazy when it looked like Punk retained before the restart. But when Rock got Vince to restart the match instead of strip the belt off Punk (due to Shield Interference) everyone knew Rock was going to win. While I guess I'm okay with Rock winning the belt, why did he win with the People's Elbow and not the Rock Bottom? That was just dumb.

Overall it was a good show with an awesome Rumble match.

Three words: John freaking Cena. I could say so much more about this man, but you don't want to read a novel about how much I adore him. Besides, my version of 50 Shades starring John and me is in its editing phase. Kidding. Or am I?

Rock, you'd better start taking your vitamins and eating your Fruity Pebbles. Brother. At the very least, I'd get that stupid smirk off your face. This person's champ will be here the day after Wrestlemania.

In honor of his win and my hopes for the Rock's demise, the P&P Piece of the Week is this rainbow magnet set.

Short and sweet this week, like me. I'll make sure my husband adds a great picture of Cena to make up for the lack of words. That'll leave you as speechless as I am this week!

Hey look at that Glee is back! Yay! The post holiday portion of the season started off with a fun yet crazy show.

First of all, we had the story of the Sadie Hawkins Dance at McKinley. Coach Beiste convinced Finn to use that to inspire the girls to sing to the guys to ask them to the dance. What I didn't expect was that Tina was going to sing I Don't Know How To Love You Him to Blaine! Where did that come from? This revealed that both of them actually have crushes on Sam, who's still dating Brittany. Gotta love high school stories. At least this lead to Marley singing Tell Him to Jake, with amazing backups (even Sugar actually sang!). That was just fun.

Before I continue I have to New York real fast. I want to ignore the Rachel/Brody storyline, I really do. There's so much other stuff going on I just don't care. As for Kurt, he is trying to fit in at NYADA and he found a show choir, Adam's Apples. Despite Rachel telling him not to, he went to a practice and found all the rejects singing an uncomfortable version of Baby Got Back that made me happy I don't buy Glee songs on ITunes anymore. That just was bad and really weird even by Glee standards. The only goal that came out of this was that Kurt has a crush on the lead so good for him. That's all I'm going to say about that mess.

Back to McKinley, Jake gets an offer from Kitty that she'll put out if he drops Marley for her. Talk about blunt. Jake went to Puck for advice and Puck said that he'll take care of Kitty and to take Marley to the dance. Do I even gave to explain where this went? Puck sleeps with everyone, no matter how immoral it truly seems.

Onto the dance, the Glee club sang songs here. First we got the guys doing an awesome version of No Scrubs. I really enjoyed that, mainly because I loved hearing males sing that song. Later on the girls sang Locked Out of Heaven, which on second listen was not bad. Finally Ryder sang I Only Have Eyes For You, which was really sweet and a great closing song.

During the dance, the major development was Marley asking Jake to be her boyfriend which was sweet and even more surprising when he agreed to moving slow. Also we got a great cameo from Zines! No need to comment more on that, it was just great to see her.

No finally the big reveal at the end of the show. Blaine and Sam have found that The Warblers cheated by shooting up with HGH. They even had a close friend of Blaine's tell Finn everything and we were left with a cliffhanger whether this news will go public. I knew they would find a way back into competitions but I didn't see that coming.

Overall good show, could have done without the New York stuff though.

Next week's show is called Naked. I'm intrigued if only based on the set list and the preview. I just don't want another sex episode.

1/25/13-Washington at New Jersey

What a game! The Capitals came into the Rock looking for their first win of the season and failed. But they put up a great fight. The Devils took a 2-0 lead on a shorthanded goal by Stephen Gionta and a 5-on-3 power play goal by Patrick Elias. In the third Washington drove back and tied the game on Mike Ribeiro and Mike Green goals. This sent the game to overtime. With 20.5 seconds left in the period, Ilya Kovalchuk won the game for New Jersey.

1/27/13-New Jersey at Montreal

Well you can't win then all, especially in a busy shortened season. The Devils went into Montreal and at least got a point. Montreal took a 2-0 lead on goals by Ryan White and Brendan Gallagher. In the 2nd, Patrick Elias made it one goal game. But quickly in the beginning of the 3rd Brandon Prust made it a 3-1 game. New Jersey came back and tied it up when David Clarkson and Dainius Zubrus scored to send the game to overtime. The Canadiens won the game when Andrei Markov scored with 38 seconds left in the game.

New Jersey at Boston

For how good the Bruins are right now, putting up a fight and getting out with a point is a job well done this early in the season. Johan Hedberg made 27 saves in his first start of the season, but the Devils couldn't score enough against Taukka Rask, and lost 2-1 in a shootout. David Clarkson scored for New Jersey on the power play, the first power play goal that the Bruins have given up this season. Boston tied the game on a goal by Nathan Horton with 4:05 left in regulation. Brad Marchad won the game for the Bs in the sixth round of the shootout.

Much like every week this season, it will be a busy week for the Devils. Tomorrow night they are home against the New York Islanders. Then they play back-to-back afternoon games over the weekend in Pittsburgh (on NHL Network) and then back to Long Island to face the Isles again. Finally Tuesday night the Rangers return to The Rock for the first time since Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

1/25/13-Oklahoma City at Milwaukee

Despite being outshot by the Barons 46-29, the Admirals destroyed a depleted Oklahoma City team 8-2. Jauso Puustinen lead the way with a hat trick, Brad Winchester tallied a goal and two assists and Taylor Beck added three assists. Jeremy Smith had a career high 44 saves. This snapped the Ads' six game losing streak.

1/26/13-Milwaukee at Peoria

After losing three straight at the Carver Arena, the Ads got back above .500 with a 3-2 overtime won over the Rivermen. Milwaukee took a 2-0 lead on goals by Jack MacLellan and Taylor Beck. Peoria came all the way back and tied the game on goals by Chris Bruton and Derek Nesbitt. The game went to overtime, and Chris Mueller ended it early to give the Admirals the win. Jeremy Smith made 38 saves going into the all-star break.

1/28/13-AHL All-Star Classic

The Western Conference beat the Eastern Conference 7-6. The only Admiral representative was Victor Bartley tallied one assist in the game.

The Admirals have only one game on the schedule this coming week. They open a seven game home stand playing the arch-rival Chicago Wolves on Friday night.

The Wave's 12 game winning streak was in jeopardy Friday night as the Wichita Wings were able to tie the game early in the 4th quarter. The comeback sparked by second year defender Chris Lemons. Milwaukee thought a 10-2 lead would be enough but the Wings showed that no score line is safe. Tied at 10-10, it took one last goal by Milwaukee's Hewerton to extend the Wave's Franchise record winning streak to 13. Final from Hartman Arena was 12-10.

On Sunday, the Chicago Soul came back to the cell. This meeting was the 3rd game between the 2 clubs in just 2 weeks. So there was bound to be some extra-curricular activities. A total of 11 cards were issued which means the penalty boxes were extremely crowded. The Soul went into the locker room with an 8-4 lead. Christian Meza scored what is potentially going to be the goal of the season to give the soul and 8-2 lead. The third quarter was all Milwaukee. 4 goals from rookie Luan Olivier led Milwaukee to an 18-10 win over Chicago. This win extended Milwaukee's winning streak to 14 straight games and a 5-0 record against the Soul with one more game remaining down in Chicago on February 18th.

The Wave square off against the Missouri Comets Saturday at 6pm. Great ticket deals available.

• Tammy "Sunny" Sytch got arrested for the sixth time, for violating a court order. Really? Who does she think she is? Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Bynes are already at the top if the train-wreck list
• Trish Stratus was names the newest inductee into the 2013 Class of the WWE Hall of Fame. This is turning out to be one of the best classes they ever had. You call tell it's in New York.
• There is a report that Brock Lesnar has signed a two year extension. This is big news and hopefully leads to more matches then this past year.
• Chris Jericho has announced that he will tour will Fozzy and stick with the WWE at the same time through at least Wrestlemania. This is good news especially since they seem to pulling all punches at Mania this year.
• Ring of Honor has officially announced Kevin Steen vs. Jay Lethal for the main event of the 11th Anniversary IPPV in March. Start the speculation that Lethal will be the one to dethrone Steen.

• In the big news of the last week, J.J. Abrams was announced as the director of Star Wars Episode VII. There are no words that describe how awesome this news is.
• Well this is really happening. Rowan Blanchard has been casted as Riley Matthews, the daughter of Cory & Topanga in Girl Meets World. Looking at her picture, that does really work.
• Everything is getting a musical these days. Sleepless in Seattle-The Musical is set to debut at the Pasadena Playhouse in California on May 24, 2013. This is totally real, scary eh?
• Kevin Smith announced this week that the animated film Jay & Silent Bob's Super Groovy Cartoon Movie, will be toured throughout the country starting in May 2013. There will be another announcement soon with tour dates and locations. Hopefully they come to Milwaukee.
• This past Sunday night, the Screen Actors Guild Awards were presented. Argo and Lincoln got top movie honors and Modern Family, 30 Rock and Downtown Abbey led the way in the television categories.

• The New York Rangers traded Chad Kolarik to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Benn Ferriero. (1/24/13)
• The Dallas Stars agreed to the terms of a five year contract with Jamie Benn. (1/24/13)
• The Philadelphia Flyers signed Mike Knuble to a one year contract. (1/25/13)
• The New York Rangers signed Jason Arnott to a one year contract. (1/26/13)
• The Montreal Canadiens signed P.K. Subban to a two year contract. (1/28/13)

Entertainment Report Issue #17 (WWE Royal Rumble, NFL Championship Weekend and more!)

As the NFL season comes to an end, the NHL season officially kicks off and Wrestlemania season is underway, we welcome you to this week's Entertainment Report.

This has been a busy month, and it only continues this week.

First of all, my father-in-law Mark and I went to the ROH house show/DVD taping on Saturday night at Turner Hall. It was a fun show with some awesome matches. Unfortunately I forgot to bring my camera with me so the only pics I have are from pre show autograph session with Charlie Hass and Roderick Strong. I did live tweet from the event at our account @EReport1, which PW Torch took and posted up on Sunday morning, which was cool. Also I have a full report of the show posted up on ProWrestling.net.

#2, this Friday, Mandy & I will be attending the Admirals game tomorrow for Country Music Night. Look for pictures in next week's issue.

Alright screw it, I'm going with my gut...

This could turn out to be a great Rumble or completely anti-climatic. I'm going to say surprise picks will be Christian, Mark Henry, Shelton Benjamin and The New Age Outlaws.

Now for the 100th time, these two teams will meet. Can this please be the last time? As much as I want to see Team Hell No to hold the belts through Mania, I think there will be a title change.

You see, I grew up in a time when you were either Team Austin or Team Rock. Guess which team I chose? I saw right through your egotistical rants, constant third-person references and childish references to pie (thanks for ruining my childhood dessert of choice, by the way). You were, and still are full of more bull than the one on your arm.

I will admit that through my eye rolls and teeth clenching the past few weeks that I found myself laughing aloud to some of your jokes. But you must remember that even a broken clock is right twice a day. For a few months out of each year as of late, you FINALLY come in, act like you own the joint, take away TV time from the men and women who bust their asses day in and day out FOR THE FANS, and leave. You are the relative that we like to see for an hour, but who overstays their welcome and stays a week in your house eating all your food and trashing the place.

Sunday, you face CM Punk in a title match that you definitely don’t deserve but will most likely win. It’s not like you to give the glory to another because the pay just isn't high enough for you. My only hope is that Punk makes you Go To Sleep. In honor of my wish, the Puzzled and Polished Piece of the Week is this pendant, featuring Deborah Lippmann’s Sweet Dreams to commemorate the ones I hope you’ll be having on Sunday.

I could go on and on, but beating a dead horse with puns, nicknames and lame analogies is really your thing. Really don’t want to piss you off or you’ll unleash the world’s most UNelectrifying move on me. Just to let you know, it’s an elbow drop. My four-year-old does that…and better than you. Though you’re not my least favorite wrestler of all time (I’m looking at you Screw Job Hart and Nursing Home Hogan), I’d be happy to tell you where you can shove your shined-up sideways facing guitar. Now do you smell what I’m cooking?

1/19/13-New Jersey at New York Islanders

The Devils opened up their season with a hard fought 2-1 victory over the Isles. Travis Zajac showed why he deserved his contract and scored a goal and David Clarkson scored one as well. Martin Brodeur made 18 saves for the win.

1/22/13-Philadelphia at New Jersey

Seriously what does Martin Brodeur do in his workouts to make him look half his age on the ice? He made 24 saves to record his 120th career shutout. That was just the icing on the cake for a full 60 minute effort by the Devils destroying the still winless Flyers 3-0. Travis Zajac opened the scoring in the opening minute and New Jersey never looked back. David Clarkson scored late in the period on the power play to take a 2-0 lead despite only her three shots on goal. The scoring was capped off by a shorthanded penalty shot goal by Ilya Kovalchuk.

This next week will be a busy one for the Devils. Friday night the Washington Capitals will visit The Rock. Then they will head on the road to face the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday night and the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night.

1/19/13-Milwaukee at Abbotsford

The Ads can't seem to get off their losing streak. As the NHL season starts, they went on the road with a mixed roster and lost to the Heat 2-1. Brett Carson tallied the game winner on the power play. Kevin Henderson scored the lone goal for Milwaukee.

1/20/13-Milwaukee at Abbotsford

Apparently the Ads left their offense at home this weekend. They lost to the Heat for the second straight night in a row, 2-0. Krys Kolanos got the game winner and Barry Brust made 30 saves for the shutout.

1/23/13-Houston at Milwaukee

The Admirals dropped their fifth straight game, 3-2 to the Aeros. Chris Mueller scored early for the Ads but Houston came back and took a 2-1 lead eary in the 2nd. Austin Waston tied the game at 17:07 but 52 seconds late Nick Petersen broke the tie. Then lead by Darcy Kuemper in net, who made 24 saves, including 10 in the 3rd, the Aeros hung on for the victory.

The Ads will be staying home to play Oklahoma City Friday night and they on Saturday night they hit the road back to Peoria. Milwaukee will have Victor Bartley representing them in the AHL All Star Classic on Monday night.

A continuation of the famous I-94 rivalry occurred this past weekend beginning in Chicago on Friday night and then finishing up in Milwaukee on Saturday night. A large group of Wave supporters approximately two coach buses full, showed the residents of Hoffman Estates, Illinois and the fairly new Sears Centre Arena that they were ready to support their team to victory. Although it was not going to be easy. Going into this game, the Chicago Soul was one of the hottest home teams in the league, as they are 2-0 against the previously 1st place Baltimore Blast. They also defeated the experienced Missouri Comets in their only trip to Chicago so far in the 2012-2013 campaign. The first quarter ended 0-0. Midway through the second, Soul rookie Christian Meza found the back of the net to take a 2-0 lead. Three minutes later Ian Bennett scored his first of the night to tie the game at 2 going into the break. Goals by former Wave midfielder Pablo and UW-Madison Alumni Aaron Nichols put the soul up 6-2 heading into the 4th. A disappointed head coach Keith Tozer attempted to control his team and changed a high pressure style of play and it payed off as the Wave took a 12-6 victory from the soul to tie a franchise record of 11 consecutive victories.

The next night in Milwaukee, it was all Milwaukee despite the scoreline. Starting off the scoring was Brazilian defender Jonatan Santos who ended up leaving the game with a torn ACL. This being the second time in his Milwaukee career in which he has torn the ACL ligament. A big loss to Milwaukee's back line. Goals by Ian Bennett and Chicago's Chile Farias brought the score to a 4-2 Milwaukee half time lead. A goal by veteran forward Guiliano Oliviero who has sat out the past two months with a hamstring injury put the Wave on top at 6-2. A 3 point goal from Hewerton just 3 minutes into the 4th would be the final dagger into the hopes of a comeback for the Soul. A late 3 point goal for Carlos Munoz would not be the spark the Soul needed to try to upset the Wave as the final horn sounds with a score of 9-5. With this win, the Wave has set a new franchise record with 12 consecutive wins, and still lead the MISL in the standings at 13-2.

Next up is a Friday matchup in Wichita before returning Sunday to face their I-94 rivals the Chicago Soul once again.

• On Thursday night, Taz was revealed as a member of Aces & Eights after he interrupted the Bully Ray/Brooke Hogan wedding. Yes in 2013, that sentence was written.
• It was announced over the weekend that the Inside Wrestling/The Wrestler magazine will cease publication.
• Bob Backlund was announced as the second member of the 2013 class of the WWE Hall of Fame. It's about time, he's a WWE legend.
• For some unknown reason Jeff Hardy was pulled from TNA's UK Tour this week. He was replaced by Sting. Hopefully it's nothing major.

• The Los Angeles Kings signed GM Dean Lombardi, coach Darryl Sutter and President of Business Operations Luc Robitaille multi year contracts. (1/18/13)
• The Buffalo Sabres signed GM Darcy Regier to a contract extension. (1/19/13)
• The Toronto Maple Leafs signed Jeffery Lepul to a five year contract extension. (1/20/13)
• The Florida Panthers traded Jean-Francais Jacques to the Tampa Bay Lightning for future considerations. (1/21/13)
• The Calgary Flames traded Henrik Karlsson to the Chicago Blackhawks for a seventh round draft pick in the 2013 draft. (1/21/13)
• The San Jose Sharks signed Scott Gomez to a 1 year, $700,000 contract. (1/23/13)
