Entertainment Report Issue #21 EXTRA: 2013 Razzie Awards

December 21, 2012 has come and gone, and we're still here. For some of us, it is a time to cherish what we have, to appreciate what would have ended had the apocalypse occurred. For another few, it's a time to figure out what to do about the credit card bills you racked up thinking 2012 was going to happen. For the ones like me who have no life other than their DVD and Blu-Ray collections and the local movie house, it's time to look at the Oscars and the schmaltz that gets nominated (I'm on team Lincoln). For the group who enjoy the worst of the worst... the Razzies are here to pay homage to the mediocre films that clogged up the multiplexes last year, films with emotionally manipulative vampires, borderline-rapist pedophile werewolves, Teletubby wannabes, cross-dressing black men, and a silent Eddie Murphy.

For this article to have any credibility, imagine for a moment that you live in a world where Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part II will NOT sweep this year's wards. That said, let's get to it.

Worst Picture

Okay. Battleship really has no place on this list. It's a dumb action movie, never intended to be anything more than that, and succeeded. The Oogieloves would be my pick if it wasn't meant to be harmless kid's fare. I haven't seen That's My Boy, and don't ever intend to. We ALL know about Twilight. However, A Thousand Words deserves it: it wastes a good plot of a man learning to choose his words the hard way by giving it to a man who gets nearly all of his laughs in films USING words. Making him silent just cripples him.

Worst Actor

• Nicolas Cage (Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Seeking Justice)
• Eddie Murphy (A Thousand Words)
• Robert Pattinson (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2)
• Tyler Perry (Alex Cross, Tyler Perry's Good Deeds)

Nicolas Cage makes any movie with him in it watchable (The Wicker Man, anyone?). Robert Pattinson actually HAS talent. Tyler Perry is too easy a target, as is Adam Sandler (who actually does wonderful in dramatic roles, just take a look at Reign Over Me). Eddie Murphy deserves it for not only willingly giving up the one thing that makes him funny, but for doing a piss-poor job at trying something new.

Worst Actress

• Tyler Perry as Madea (Tyler Perry's Madea's Witness Protection)

No long-winded process of elimination here: Kristen Stewart, for the same bland, shitty personality-less performance in two equally shitty movies (one in which she cheated on her husband with, no less!).

Worst Supporting Actor

• David Hassellhoff as himself (Piranha 3DD)
• Taylor Lautner (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2)
• Liam Neeson (Battleship, Wrath of the Titans)
• Nick Swardson (That's My Boy)
• Vanilla Ice as himself (That's My Boy)

Why in the hell is Liam Neeson on here? Why? His performances were not bad in the least. Moreso, Vanilla Ice is nominated for a freaking cameo (hardly a SUPPORTING role), and I can't really talk smack about him (he gave us "Ninja Rap," and we are eternally grateful). Same logic applies to Hassellhoff, doubly so considering Piranha 3DD had no aspirations of being anything but a cheesy B-movie. Having not seen That's My Boy, I must pick Taylor Lautner, (either a FTM Kristen Stewart or a living cardboard cutout). Washboard abs and frequent shirtlessness DOES NOT cover up the ability to be outacted by the cast of a kindergarten play).

Every director but one on this list has made at least one good movie. Anders made Sex Drive, Berg has several including Very Bad Things and Friday Night Lights, Condon has Gods and Monsters, and Putch has A Time to Remember. What does Tyler Perry have? The same damn movie made numerous times, and that original movie wasn't that good to begin with.

This is the final PPV before WrestleMania. I'm excited for that fact alone. As for this show, this might be the best card the WWE has put together in February in a long time. Let's get into it...

The rematch everyone saw coming, no one has argued with. Aside from "Storytime with The Rock" the build has been fantastic. I'm still not sure what to do with this matchup. I guess I have to go with the obvious...

So Del Rio is more Mexican than last month and Big Show can't decide if he's a monster or a diva. That brings us to this matchup and an obvious winner...

Just looking at that group, it's extremely insane to see where Smackdown has come in the last year. There are two things I think that are definitely going to happen. #1, Jack Swagger will not be the first one eliminated. #2, the match will come down to Mark Henry and Daniel Bryan. It'll be a total mismatch but should be a fantastic back and forth leading to...

This is an amazing six man tag match. It could main event any other PPV throughout the year. Now the question is how does it end. Honestly this is the most unpredictable matchup on the show. But since one half of the Mania main event is in there...

Bet you didn't know this match was on the card. It wasn't even announced on Raw. The better question is has Kaitlyn even been on TV in the last week or so? I want to care so much but this is completely out of nowhere...

Another match not announced on TV. At least this has build up, too bad it will end like the pre-show last month...

Didn't Team Rhodes Scholars just break up? This is the comedy match of the night and should at least be fun...

Winners:Brodus Clay & Tensai

This was a very interesting episode. It wasn't a bad episode by any means but it felt like a maintenance show. Everything that happened seemed to be leading to something bigger in a later episode.

Starting in New York, Kurt exploded on Rachel on becoming a major Diva. This argument led to him challenging her to "Midnight Madness" aka the singing version of Fight Club. They performed Bring Him Home and Kurt won. This all led to actually bringing them closer together in the end. I personally loved how they referenced Defying Gravity from season one.

Meanwhile in Lima, Finn challenged the Glee Club to bring out the diva out of them. This lead to fun performances from Blaine, Don't Stop Me Now, and a surprise appearance by Santana, Nutbush City Limits, which looks like will be the last time we see her in a cheerleader outfit. Santana's appearance really didn't sit well with Tina who vented to a sick Blaine. This led to a very uncomfortable moment in Blaine's bedroom where they were trying to figure out a song for her to perform and Blaine passed out because he was so sick. She ended up straddling him, opening his shirt and rubbing cream on his chest. It was so bizarre and weird. At least we for a fantastic show stopping performance, Hung Up, out of it from Tina.

Now as that was going on, the Internet exploded, and this time not because of Daniel Bryan/CM Punk match. This was because of the love triangle between Santana, Brittany and Sam. For fear of outrage from fan girls, I'm not going to choose between Bram and Brittana. But I will say that I was completely invested in this storyline all night. Fro Sam and Santana both professing their love for Brittany in Make No Mistake (She's Mine) to Britt calling her out and telling her to follow her dreams in New York to a stunning performance of Girl on Fire by Santana, this was just old school fun.

Now finally the minor subplot to lead to next week's show. Next week is Will & Emma's wedding. This is four seasons in the making, and I can't wait. But this week they threw a big wrench in by having Finn fall for Emma and kiss her to calm her down from an OCD freakout. That totally shocked me. This will make the next show more interesting.

Looking at his numbers for the season up until last week, you would be questioning the Wave's decision as to why they have been keeping rookie Israel Sesay on the active roster. Well in the past two games Israel "izzy", has shown the league and Milwaukee that he was worth the wait. The indoor game is completely different than the outdoor game. Especially playing under coach Keith Tozers style of play. Sesay picked up where he left out last week against the Missouri Comets, scoring the first goal of the game beating Rochesters goalie Gavin McInerney to his near post. Guiliano Oliviero then made it 4-0 in favor of the defending champions. Sesay finished off his second of the evening which brought the halftime score to a 10-4 advantage for Milwaukee. Pedrinho opened the scoring for the Lancers with a powerplay goal midway through the third. A beautiful strike from rookie Paul Craig put the lancers with in one as he was credited with a three point goal.  Goals by Nick Perera and Ian Bennett brought the Wave's lead back to 5. That was also Perera's second goal of the evening as well. A quick restart goal by Doug Miller brought the score to 14-11. Miller who is the league's oldest player at 44 years young. Also leads the league with 41 goals. One final shot by Miller was deflected by midfielder JP Rodrigues with just seconds remaining in the game to help preserve Milwaukee's 16 game winning streak.

The team embarks on a 5 game road trip before returning home march 2 and march 3rd to close out the regular season.

2/7/13-Tampa Bay at New Jersey

The Devils special teams are becoming a huge part of their success. Ilya Kovalchuk got a shorthanded goal and Andy Greene and Patrik Elias scored on the power play. Add on an Adam Henrique goal and you have a 4-2 New Jersey victory.

2/9/13-Pittsburgh at New Jersey

What a difference a week makes. It was a historic afternoon at The Rock as Martin Brodeur became the first goalie to play in 1,200 NHL games. Despite an early Brandon Sutter power play goal, he made 24 saves for the victory. While the 40 year old legend was making history, the scoreboard went to the youth. Stefan Matteau tied the game with his first career NHL goal, Bobby Butler scored a power play goal and got an assist for his first points as a Devil and Adam Henrique scored as well.

2/10/13-New Jersey at Pittsburgh

What team is this? Is this the team that lost their leading scorer over the summer? Or is this the team that continues to prove the hockey experts wrong? Yes, that's right the Devils beat the Penguins again, 3-1. Now on a five game winning streak, New Jersey is showing that this is indeed a team game. David Clarkson scored two more goals to continue his hot start and Ilya Kovalchuk scored as well. Johan Hedberg made 23 saves for the win.

2/12/13-Carolina at New Jersey

Every good streak must come to an end. Jiri Tlusty scored two goals in the third for the Hurricanes to end the Devils' five game win streak. Ilya Kovalchuk and Ryan Carter scored for New Jersey.

After a rare two days off, the Devils stay home to host the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night and then return to Long Island to face off against the Islanders again. Then finally they will a President's Day afternoon game against the Ottawa Senators.

2/8/13-Houston at Milwaukee

It's starting to seem like the NHL season is catching up with the Ads. The Aeros came into the Bradley Center and destroyed the Admirals 5-2, led by two goals and an assist by Justin Fontaine. Cam Reid and Austin Watson got the Milwaukee goals.

2/10/13-Peoria at Milwaukee

This felt like an old school hockey game before all the rule changes. Magnus Hellberg made 30 saves to record a shutout for a 1-0 Admirals victory or the Rivermen. Mark Van Guilder scored the lone goal for the Ads.

2/12/13-Abbotsford at Milwaukee

The Admirals and Magnus Hellberg won their second straight game with a 2-1 win over the Heat. Juuso Puustinen and Taylor Beck scored in victory and Chris Mueller assisted on both goals.

The Admirals finish up their mega home stand with a three pack over the weekend. Friday night they the San Antonio Rampage, Saturday night against the Charlotte Checkers and Sunday afternoon against the Abbotsford Heat.

• Dutch Mantell made a surprise return to the WWE on Monday night as Jack Swagger's manager Zeb Coulter. Based on his first promo, this either will be really interesting or a total train wreck.
• DirecTV has issued a survey to ask their subscribers what they think of adding the WWE Network as a pay station. The plan includes all PPVS that are not WrestleMania. This is the most info we've gotten in a long time on the station. There should be more coming on this during the McMahon conference call on 2/28.

• On Sunday night, The Walking Dead destroyed their own cable ratings record set last year. The show got 12.3 million viewers and 6.1 rating, head to head with the Grammys, raising to 16.6 million with the encore included. Those are unreal numbers for a cable show and has better numbers then most broadcast TV shows lately. 

• The Los Angeles Kings traded Anderi Loktionov to the New Jersey Devils for a 2013 fifth round pick. (2/6/13)
• The Philadelphia Flyers signed Kimmo Timonen to a one year contract extension. (2/7/13)
• The Boston Bruins traded Tim Thomas to the New York Islanders for a conditional second round pick in 2013/2014. (2/7/13)
• The Florida Panthers traded Keaton Ellerby to the Los Angeles Kings for a 2013 fifth round pick. (2/8/13)
• The Boston Bruins signed Jay Pandolfo to a one year contract. (2/12/13)

Entertainment Report Issue #19 (Super Bowl XLVII, Grammy Awards, Glee and much more)

This is officially the start of award season for the Report. Today Joe and I teamed up with Joe and we put our music prowess, or lack there of in some cases, to the test. We covered every awards in the pop, rock, rap and country genres plus some other fun categories, so take a look and see what we think.

That being said, a quick announcement. As award and WrestleMania season continues, I do have some surprises lines up so I hope you come back and enjoy the ride.

What an amazing game! Thanks in part to a timely light display... No not from Beyonce, but from a freak power outage just when it looked like the Ravens were about to put the game away. Colin Kaepernick appeared scared and just like a rookie during the first half throwing one of his passes away and not looking very accurate at all, meanwhile the exact opposite could be said about Mr Flacco... Who seemed calm, cool, & collective throughout the entire game. The Ravens were just the better team Sunday and the 49ers never seemed quite up to the task of completely overturning the score. The Ravens defense made it official with a crazy goal line stand that people will be talking about until next year's game.

Yay! Glee fooled me! When I saw the title I assumed it was another sex episode. It wasn't! This was indeed a very basic but good show. No major story twists, a few surprises but nothing too over the top.

First off we learned that the Warblers were officially disqualified from Regionals and that meant New Directions was in. That led to Finn saying that, of course, they needed to earn money to get to Indianapolis. Tina suggested a Men of McKinley calendar, which Finn approved. (I'm just going to skip over the Finn-Sue storyline. As awesome as Finn was here, Sue in penthouse scares me.) Meanwhile Sam and Brittany got their SAT scores which was revealed that Britt had one of highest and Sam had one of the lowest. This caused Sam to have a mental breakdown, which Blaine helped bring him back to earth with a great video from his friend. Hey at least we got a really fun mash up if Centerfold/Hot in Herre. Glee, you are sitting on a gold mine if you don't release the calendar, the fan girls will flock.

Back in New York, Rachel got offered a role in a student film, but the catch was that she'd have to be topless. The internal debate with her old self led to a Glee first, Rachel had a duet with herself. That's right, old Rachel and new Rachel sang Torn. I can honestly say, I love Rachel but two of her is too much. The best part of this whole story was Kurt calling Santana and Quinn to be Rachel's Jiminy Cricket and convinced her not to the future. On the record there is no real Brittana sex tape, I looked. It was great to just sit back and enjoy Love Story, even with the topless fat guys. Hey it made me feel good about myself.

Finally in the background in Ohio, we had a majorly cute buildup to Marley and Jake, complete with a love duet (A Thousand Years) and an amazing dedication (Let Me Love You). Good to see they are adorable together.

Overall it was a very good show. This is just continuing to be a great season. Keep it up Glee!

• Bruno Sammartino was announced as the newest member of the 2013 WWE Hall of Fame. Just writing that sentence causes chills up and down my spine. Triple H to his credit never gave up and struck a deal with one of the greatest wrestlers in the history of the WWE. With this announcement, in addition to Foley, Backlund and Stratus might be the most stacked Hall of Fame class ever.

Despite Missouri jumping out to a 5-0 lead, for the first three quarters last Saturday, the fans at the U.S. Cellular arena were treated to a back and forth affair. It seemed that everytime Milwaukee would score, Missouri would have an answer. Finally with just minutes remaining in the first half, the Wave finished off a powerplay goal after Comets midfielder Lucas Rodriguez was sent to the box for tripping. Giuliano Oliviero crashed the box and tapped in the go ahead goal to give the Wave a 12-11 halftime lead. Missouri yet again had an answer for Milwaukee as just thirty five seconds into the third quarter, Missouri took a 13-12 lead. A 12 point rally in the fourth with 2 3-point goals gave the Wave their highest scoring game of the season with a 29-15 win over the Missouri Comets. The 15th straight win for the Wave, guarenteed nothing less than a second place finish and home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Rookie midfielder Israel Sesay finished off his firsr two goal game. JP Rodrigues also finished off his first goal since his return to the Wave this season. A three point goal against Missouri's goalkeeper Danny Waltman who at the time was playing as a 6th attacker.

Next up for the Wave is sunday vs the Rochester Lancers at 3pm. It is the annual Autism awareness game. Specialty jerseys will be auctioned off following the game.

1/31/13-New York Islanders at New Jersey

Martin Brodeur is definitely one of the greatest puck handling goalies of all time but this time it bit him. Brad Bayes took advantage of Brodeur not making it back into his net in time and scored a power play goal for a wild 5-4 overtime victory. The Devils never had a lead but came back from three different Isles leads. Steve Bernier, Ryan Carter and Henrik Tallinder all scored in the 2nd period for the Devils. In the 3rd, tied at three, Mark Streit scored for New York but just over two minutes later, the returning Adam Henrique tied the game sending the game to overtime.

2/2/13-New Jersey at Pittsburgh

The Devils' six game point streak ended after getting blown out by the Penguins 5-1. Led by Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz's goal and two assists each, Pittsburgh completely dominated the afternoon cap. The lone New Jersey goal was a second period shorthanded goal by Andy Greene. This game also ended David Clarkson's six game point a game streak.

2/3/13-New Jersey at New York Islanders

After two sloppy penalty filled periods, the Devils and Islanders are scoreless and in a goalie duel between Johan Hedberg and Evgeni Nabokov. This ended at 16:06 when Steve Bernier gave the Devils 1-0. 1:10 later Bernier scored again and then David Clarkson closed the game out with an empty netter. Hedberg made 22 saves for the 3-0 shutout.

2/5/13-New York Rangers at New Jersey

Les by two goals and an assist by David Clarkson, the Devils beat their cross river rival Rangers 3-1. The ageless wonder Martin Brodeur made 24 saves in the dominating win. Adam Henrique continued his Ranger killing ways with a goal and Patrik Elias assisted on all three goals.

Is there even a point anymore to say the Devils have a busy week coming up? Tomorrow night the red hot Tampa Bay Lightning visit The Rock. Then they have a home and home with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday afternoon (on NHL Network) and Sunday night (on NBC Sports Network). Finally the Carolina Hurricanes come to town on Tuesday night.

2/1/13-Chicago at Milwaukee

What a terrible way to start a home stand. The Wolves scored four goals in 8:20 in the first period, leading to a 5-2 dominating victory over their Amtrak rival. Guillaume Desbiens and Michael Davies led the way with a goal and assist each. Mark Van Guilder and Cam Reid got the goals for the Milwaukee.

In the next week, the Ads don't go on road. Friday night the Houston Aeros come to town. Then on Sunday afternoon the Grand Rapids Griffins make their way to the BC followed by the Abbotsford Heat on Tuesday night.

• Super Bowl XLVII ended up being the third most watched program in history, gaining 108.4 million viewers. One would assume the 34 minute blackout had something to so with the dip in the ratings from the last two years.

• The Toronto Maple Leafs claimed Frazer McLaren off waivers from San Jose. (1/31/13)
